Java Jazz day two, A tremendously great effort and stamina required struggling to locate a comfort zone, space to park, sit, chill, walk or even breath was virtually an impossible reality. Saturday night fever as the 2nd day drew in practically the whole city perhaps the country. A nightmare for claustrophobics. No Doubt the festivals expansion and growth into an even bigger Arena and venue than previous years and attracting more people, one has to wonder where next ? President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono took a break from his routine on Saturday as he joined hundreds of music enthusiasts who packed the JI Expo in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta for the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival. The President’s entourage included First lady Ani Yudhoyono, several Cabinet ministers and Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo. They watched the performance of Dianne Warren, who opened her entertaining showing with her single Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.
Jazz, unlike rock and roll, is not the type of music to die for. It is very unlikely jazz will ever draw serious devotion and adulation from its fans. In fact, it is almost improbable a cult will form around trumpet player Wynton Marsalis or jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour. As far as I know, guitarist Pat Metheny never had a problem with groupies hounding his every show. Fans of this musical genre are likely bookish grad school students, college professors who despise classical music, jazz musicians themselves and/or promoters of their shows. Day 1 Java Jazz 2010. Walking through the gates of the new venue felt very unfamiliar after becoming accustomed to Java Jazz located on it original playing field. Never the less something new to discover and explore and the anticipated feeling of what`s to come in a festival that has grown to become one of the most talked about festivals in the world today.
... kicks off today with a spectacular line-up. Top of the bill of the first day of the 6th edition of indonesia's biggest music festival is without doubt american superstar John Legend. Java Jazz Festival has traditionally a strong connection with the Netherlands due to the history of both countries, but also because of the fact that program director Paul Dankmeyer has previously done the same job for the prestigious NORTH SEA JAZZ FESTIVA and knows by that the ins and outs of the dutch jazz scene and the hot new kidz an the block.
